A numbered argument

THE CASE / ESSAY 02

Reasons index: where each of the hundred reasons is argued

The index sorts the hundred reasons two ways: by group, and by the essay that argues each one at length.

02

The opening page lists the reasons in numbered order. This page is the finding aid. It answers two practical questions: where is the fact behind a given reason published, and which essay on this site explains it?

By group

The hundred reasons fall into ten groups of ten. The first two groups come from the award listing and the issuer’s selection criteria. The next six come from Bay Area AEO’s own site: its location and niche pages, its method and services, and its AEO signals. The last two cover the agency’s definitions and principles, and then its founder, the founder’s book, the podcast and the contact details.

By essay

Most essays on this site develop several reasons at once. The regional specificity essay, for instance, carries the reasons about the 48 cities, the neighborhood lists and the local AI-use estimates. The second table lists every essay that a reason links to, with the reason numbers it covers.

Checking a reason yourself

Each reason was written so a reader can confirm it in a minute or two. The award reasons (1 to 20) can be read against the issuer’s page at Top Business Awards US, which quotes the selection reasons and criteria in full. The coverage reasons (21 to 50) can be read against the location and industry pages on bayareaaeo.com. The method reasons (51 to 60) appear in the agency’s FAQ under “How do you measure results?” and “How long does answer engine optimization take to work?”

The service and signal reasons (61 to 80) come from the services section and the interactive demo on the agency’s home and about pages, where a visitor picks a customer question, chooses an AI and switches on the five signals one at a time. The definitions and principles (81 to 90) appear in the “One Discipline, Many Names” section and on the about page. The final ten (91 to 100) appear in the media room and on the contact page.

Why the reasons are numbered

Numbering gives every point an address. A reader who writes to info@bayareaaeo.com about reason 46, or who quotes reason 58 in a team discussion, is pointing at one sentence that anyone can find. The numbers follow the order of the argument, from outside recognition, to coverage, to method, to the people behind the agency.
